Funeral services for Lavene Hefley were held Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Family visitation will be from 6–8 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home, where friends may call after 11 a.m. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Jameson Christian Church, in care of the funeral home.

Tarkio’s decision to play eight-man football, beginning in 2010, wasn’t an easy one for many reasons, and wasn’t a unanimous decision (two dissenting votes) by the Tarkio school board.
The Gallatin Bulldogs head into this week’s game against Hamilton as huge underdogs, but their playoff chances remain within the realm of possibility.
Parent-teacher conferences were scheduled at North Daviess R-3 for Oct. 22, according to minutes from the regular meeting of the Board of Education held Oct. 13. No school is scheduled on Oct. 23.
During their regular meeting held Oct. 15, The Winston R-6 Board of Education heard that the new after school homework helper program is a big success with 20-25 students in regular attendance.
The Chi-Rho Youth Group will be collecting canned good items at the football game in Gallatin on Thursday night, Oct. 29. The youth group will be collecting non-perishable canned good food items at both entrances to the football game. Please support the Bulldogs and the Chi-Rho Youth Group by bringing a non-perishable food item with you to the game.
On Oct. 21, 12 of the Gallatin FFA members, and students from Jamesport, Hamilton, Pattonsburg, and Maysville, headed to Indianapolis, Ind., for the 2009 National FFA Convention, where more than 55,000 FFA members from all over the country were expected to be attending.
Four students from Gallatin High School made the cut for All-District Choir. The students are pictured, left to right, Tyler Avriette, Terrill Wood, Michael Youd and Alex Richards. The choir performed at Platte County High School on Oct. 24, under the direction of Marilyn Rhea. There were 120 students performing from the district.
Gallatin R-5 High School recently announced its first quarter honor roll.

On Oct. 23, Dale Ray Curtis, 19, Gallatin, was charged with felony burglary and assault, as well as misdemeanor counts of harassment (2), trespassing first degree, property damage second degree and assault third degree.. His brother, Kyle Curtis, 17, Gallatin, was charged with misdemeanor harassment, trespassing and minor in possession.
Graveside services for Aileen Barry were held Oct. 24, at Rosehill Cemetery in Breckenridge. Arrangements were by Pitts Funeral Home in Breckenridge.
A memorial service for Mary Porter will be held at a later date. Mrs. Porter was cremated under the direction of the Rupp Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
Memorial services for Shirley Steel were held Oct. 25, at the First Christian Church, Cameron. Arrangements are by Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron. Inurnment followed the service at Graceland Cemetery, Cameron. Memorials may be made to the Steele Family Scholarship Fund.
Funeral services for James Ford were held at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 28), at Poland Thompson Funeral Home in Cameron. Burial was in: Packard Cemetery, Cameron.
Ainsley Quentin McGill and Amanda Jean Bennett are announcing their upcoming wedding on Oct. 30, 2009, at the State Park Church of Christ, Grand Island, Neb.
Sally Sparks-Rogers, a teacher at Gallatin R-5 High School, ran in the 34th Annual Marine Corp Marathon held in Arlington, Va., on Oct. 25.
