Sally Sparks-Rogers, a teacher at Gallatin R-5 High School, ran in the 34th Annual Marine Corp Marathon held in Arlington, Va., on Oct. 25.

"The People’s Marathon" benefits injured marines and their families. The racers were led by marines in full combat gear. The 26.2 mile race took participants on a journey through the streets of Arlington, Va., and Washington DC. The runners started at Arlington National Cemetery, then to Georgetown, up Pennsylvania Avenue, around the White House, and finished at the Marine Corp War Memorial. There were nearly 21,000 participants in the marathon. Sally received a medal from the Marine Corp for completing the run, which took her five hours (4:57:58). Sally, who lives in Altamont, teaches Algebra 2, Appl. Math 2, College Algebra, Trig. and Anal., and Geometry at GHS.
