During their regular meeting held Oct. 15, The Winston R-6 Board of Education heard that the new after school homework helper program is a big success with 20-25 students in regular attendance.
Bills were reviewed and approved.
The additions to the substitute list were approved.
Superintendent Brian Robinson reported that he, and David Neth, board president, and Scot Wilkerson, board member, attended the Board President’s Workshop, sponsored by M.A.R.E. in Stanberry. The workshop focused on the roll of a school board president and how to effectively lead a school board.
The district is still in need of substitute bus drivers.
The Winston junior high tournament will be going on the week of Oct. 19.
Elementary Principal Abby Smith and High School Principal Eric Lewis gave reports. The elementary attendance is 96.51%. High School attendance is 95.53%. Parent Teacher Conferences were held Sept. 23 and were well attended. September Students of the Month in the elementary were Dakota Stockton and Kailey Caldwell and in the high school they were Cally Mastin and Jacob Heldenbrand.
The following Students were selected Boys and Girls All conference Softball: Cody Youtsey, Brian Lee, Baylea Martin and Amber Mullen. Cody Youtsey was selected Boys All State.
Abe Riggs addressed the board about the 2010 senior trip.
The first reading of recommended board policy updates from Missouri Consultants for Education was held. The proposed policy changes will be discussed at the November meeting.
The board approved revisions to Policy 1425 concerning school volunteers.
Program evaluations in the areas of school climate and technology resources were reviewed and approved.
The closed session was canceled.
Next regular meeting is Thursday, Nov. 19.
