The Gallatin Bulldogs head into this week’s game against Hamilton as huge underdogs, but their playoff chances remain within the realm of possibility.

Maysville’s 12-0 victory over Gallatin sets up a complicated chain of events that must unfold if the Bulldogs are to make the Class 1 post season.
Gallatin can still win the district with a victory over Hamilton, even if Maysville beats Polo, but if would depend on the margin of victory for both teams. Both Gallatin and Maysville currently own 1-1 district records. The Bulldogs are plus one in playoff points. The Wolverines are minus one in playoff points.
A victory over Hamilton isn’t mandatory for Gallatin to get the district runnerup spot, and playoff berth that goes with it. If the Hornets defeat the Bulldogs by as many as13 points, Gallatin can still get in if Polo downs Maysville by 13.
In that case, Gallatin, Maysville and Polo would each sport 1-2 district records. Using the point formula for wins and losses, Gallatin would have accumulated minus 12 points in three games, Polo would hold minus 13 points and Maysville would have minus 14 points.
Gallatin’s only scoring threats against Maysville came early. The Bulldogs drove the length of the field in their opening series, only to crash on the Wolverine six-yard line when the officials signaled a late fumble that gave Maysville possession.
The Bulldogs ground out yardage to the Wolverine 19-yard line on their next drive, only to turn the ball over on downs.
Maysville scored once in the second quarter and again in the third to lock up the win.
Gallatin hosts a Hamilton team this week that comes in with a 17-game, regular season win streak. The Hornets last regular season loss came on Nov. 2, 2007 to Lathrop (33-7).
The Hornets come in averaging 51 points per game on offense, while giving up just 47 total points on defense.
