Gallatin junior high teams finished fifth at the season-opening Stanberry Relays on April 10 and competed with nine other schools at the Trenton Middle School Relays last Tuesday.

R-5 School announces personnel decisions
During their regular meeting held Wednesday, April 18, the Gallatin R-5 Board of Education heard a salary presentation, after which the board agreed to a 3% raise for support staff.
Pattonsburg FFA leads area chapters at 79th convention
Pattonsburg FFA placed 14th and the Gallatin FFA placed 24th out of 305 chapters in the state, earning Top Chapter Awards at the 79th Missouri FFA Convention held in Columbia April 19 – 20. Only 10 percent of state chapters receive the Top Chapter Award each year.
Sunday’s electric problems in the substation
During their regular meeting held Monday, April 23, Teddy Holcomb, street supervisor, told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen that the electric problems from Sunday seems to be in the substation. City crews have been working with Ray Blakely and Assoc. with assistance from FEC to correct the problem.
Jamesport farmer pinned under tractor; Massachusetts man hit by turkey
A Jamesport farmer received moderate injuries in a tractor accident at about 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, in Livingston County.
City of Gallatin suffers electrical outages
Residents of Gallatin awoke Sunday to find that their electrical power was either completely off or very sporadic. The outages started early Sunday and continued throughout the morning.
Genealogical Society resources continue to grow
The Daviess County Genealogical Society’s Resource Center continues to grow with donations of books, family histories, obituary notebooks, current cemetery listings, census and other resources.
Pattonsburg R-2 students dismissed after bomb scare
Superintendent Wendell Burns said the Pattonsburg R-2 School was dismissed early this morning after custodians discovered a bomb threat.

Joseph E. Van Becelaere
Mass of Christian burial for Joseph Van Becelaere was held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Gallatin. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown. Arrangements were by McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Memorials may be made to Comfort Care Hospice.

In recognition of April as National Volunteer Month, the Seventh Day Adventist Community Service Center volunteers chose to recognize Nina Clevenger for "inspiring by example." Nina, who turned 93 on April 15, has been a volunteer at the Center for the past 14 years. Nina, along with all the many volunteers in our community, encourage those they help while at the same time motivating others to serve.
Toni Cox to serve as principal at Searcy Elementary
Toni Cox will be taking over as elementary principal at Searcy Elementary in Gallatin beginning next school year. Toni lived in Gallatin from the time she was 10 years old and graduated from Gallatin High School in 1984. She received her education degree from Northwest Missouri State University in 1990.
