Among donations are the 1837-1937 Daviess County Centennial Book donated by Gallatin member, Lucille Bruce; an obituary notebook listing many from the Curtis Family, donated by Jamesport’s Lynn Curtis, and two Scott family history notebooks. The Scott notebooks shows the family’s connections to Daviess County’s own, Martha Scott Powell, star of movies and TV, who is buried at Jamesport’s Masonic Cemetery.
DCGS member, Nadine Barker from Oregon, sent her family history. If you would like to do the same, mail your book/notebooks to DCGS Pres., Lanita Sconce Smith, at PO Box 245, Jamesport, MO 64648 or attend any of the group’s gatherings. You can also contact Lanita at 660-684-6174 or email at [email protected]. Your donations will be gratefully accepted and added to the resource center. Be sure to send a letter with your name, address, email, as Nadine did, so that others aka ‘cousins’ will be able to contact you.
If you would like more information on becoming a member, need help in researching your family, or want to report a cemetery in need of the group’s help, join them this Saturday, April 28 at 2 p.m. at the Sheriff’s home of the Squirrel Cage Jail in Gallatin. The one hour meeting is casual, short, and a lot of fun for those interested in learning more about their family’s history.
