A Jamesport farmer received moderate injuries in a tractor accident at about 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 19, in Livingston County.

According to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol William Eckert, 70, was traveling along a steep embankment on private property when the John Deere Model B tractor he was driving lost traction. The tractor overturned one and a half times and Mr. Eckert became pinned under the right rear wheel. He remained there until a family member located him at around 8:30 that evening.

Mr. Eckert was transported by air ambulance to North Kansas City Hospital.

The patrol reported that the family-owned tractor remained at the scene at Route W, about 13 miles northwest of Chillicothe. Damage to the tractor was unknown because it was 50 to 60 years old.

The accident was investigated by Trp. A.G. McAtee, assisted by Tpr. H.B. Cowan and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department.

A Massachusetts man received moderate injuries after being struck by a turkey at about 2:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 21.

William J. Havalotti, 59, was northbound on I-35 about two miles north of Pattonsburg in a 2004 Volvo tractor-trailer. The semi struck a turkey which went through the windshield and struck the driver.

Mr. Havalotti was taken by Daviess County Ambulance to Harrison County Hospital. He was wearing his seat belt.

The tractor trailer received minor damage and was driven from the scene to Scotty’s in Cameron.
