Mass of Christian burial for Joseph Van Becelaere was held at 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church in Gallatin. Burial will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Raytown. Arrangements were by McWilliams Funeral Home, Gallatin. Memorials may be made to Comfort Care Hospice.
Joseph "Joe" E. Van Becelaere, Gallatin, died Sunday, April 8, 2007, at the Missouri Veterans Home in Cameron.
Mr. Van Becelaere was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Kansas City to Emil and Margaret (Vinckier) Van Becelaere. He graduated from Glennon High School in 1948 in Kansas City.
In 1952, Mr. Van Becelaere joined the Navy serving on the USS Shenandoah.
In 1954, he was united in marriage to Charlene Kouns, his wife of 53 years.
Mr. Van Becelaere began working for the US Postal Service in 1959 and moved to Blue Springs in 1969. After 30 years as a data technician with the postal service he retired, and in 1991 moved to Lake Viking.
Mr. Van Becelaere was a member of the Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Lion’s Club and the Lake Viking Building Committee. He coached bowling for handicapped children.
Survivors include his wife, Charlene of the home; three daughters, Joan Van Becelaere of Denver, Colo., Nancy Brown and Donna Power, both of Kansas City; one sister, Mary Ann Galbraith of Fort Worth, Texas; one brother, Robert Van Becelaere of Lake Latawanna; and two grandchildren.
