The students of Covel D. Searcy Elementary are jumping at the chance to help fight heart disease and stroke — our nation’s #1 killer. The week of Feb. 5-9, the school will hold its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular research and educational programs. Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance.
The courtwarming game at Gallatin R-5 starts at 6:30 on Feb. 2. The Student Council chili supper begins at 4:30, before the game. Coronation will be held following the games. The dance will start at 8 p.m. on Feb. 3.

The following named jurors were drawn to serve as petit jurors in the Daviess County Circuit Court for the term of service Feb. 12 to June 10:

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that repairs are being made to equipment this week.
The commission met with Kevin Heldenbrand, sheriff, Sue Bird, circuit clerk, and Annie Gibson, prosecuting attorney, regarding their budgets.

David Tolen has been hired as the district budget manager for the Daviess- DeKalb County Regional Jail. According to jail officials, the decision to hire a budget manager came as the result of state auditor recommendations. Mr. Tolen is the former presiding commissioner of Daviess County and as such served as the chairman on the regional jail board through December 2006.
Increase effective May 1 only the second in past 16 years
During the regular Tuesday meeting, the Gallatin Rotary Club recognized Doyle Pattons as the club’s 2007 Paul Harris Fellow. The ceremony presented a rotary certificate, medallion and special pin to Doyle.
The filing period for the April 3 school board and municipal elections ended Tuesday, Jan. 16.
Funeral Services for Violet Feigly were held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday) Jan. 31, at the Hamilton United Methodist Church. Interment was at Highland Cemetery, Hamilton. Memorials may be made to the church building fund. Arrangements were by Bram Funeral Home, Hamilton.
