The Paul Harris Fellow Award, named after the founder of Rotary, has always held great significance in the Rotary organization and Rotary’s most prestigious and outstanding recognition achievement. It represents a substantial contribution to the humanitarian and educational programs of Rotary International as supported by the Rotary Foundation.
Rotary programs provide a wide variety of help and assistance to people all over the world. Projects include improving the quality of life and promote peace through understanding; safe drinking water for communities in third world countries; gathering shoes for orphans; providing a broad spectrum of medical services in many countries; aiding disabled to obtain artificial limbs; promoting youth leadership training; scholarship awards; student exchange and group exchange programs with other countries; agricultural assistance; school supplies and educational materials; and the list goes on.
One of the most noteworthy Rotary projects is the goal to eliminate polio from the world. Rotary has joined together with partner organizations to accomplish this important goal.
Over the years, the Gallatin Rotary Club, which will celebrate its 83rd year this spring, has enjoyed recognizing many of its members achieving the Paul Harris Fellow Award. Among the list is Charles Brandom, his wife Katherine, Harold Condit, Bob Paul, Larry Richards, Joe Snyder, Phil Tate, Turpin Youtsey, Don Rains and others.
In the year 2000, the Gallatin Rotary Club introduced the Paul Harris Fellow Pool Program. Several of the members joined the new group. Since the inception of the pool program, Gallatin Rotary has had the opportunity to recognize several new Paul Harris Fellows:
Don Fenn in 2001; Dale Alexander and Jan Johnson in 2002; Julia Filley in 2003; Vicki Corwin in 2004; Jason Helton and Karen Young in 2005; Roger Eichler and Phil Tate in 2006 (second Paul Harris Fellow Award for Phil) and now in 2007, Doyle Patton.
