Eight individual medal finishes combined for a third place team finish for Gallatin at Saturday’s Lathrop Wrestling Tournament. The event included seven of 10 Grand River Conference schools, with only Tarkio, Rock Port and Hamilton not attending.
Due to a power outage last Saturday in Gallatin, the final games of the Gallatin Jayvee Basketball Tournament were postponed until this Saturday.
Hamilton and Trenton will finish their girls game, beginning at 9 a.m. The boys game between Gallatin and Trenton will follow. Admission is free to the games. There will be no concession stand.

The students at Covel D. Searcy Elementary are jumping at the chance to help fight heart disease and stroke—our nation’s #1 killer. The week of Feb. 8-12, the school will hold its annual Jump Rope for Heart event. Students will jump rope to raise funds for the American Heart Association’s cardiovascular research and educational programs. Jump Rope for Heart is co-sponsored by the American Heart Association and the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance.
The Winston R-6 Board of Education approved a change to a seven period day schedule for the high school during their regular meeting held Jan. 18. Currently the high school operates on a 10 period block schedule. The change will take effect next school year, which begins in August, 2010.
The contract for Superintendent Becky Morris was extended through the 2012 school year at the current salary after the North Daviess R-3 Board of Education returned to open session from a closed meeting on Jan. 18.
Ella Smith, 81, of Gallatin, passed away Thursday, Jan. 21, 2010 at the Cameron Nursing & Rehab Center. Services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Burial was at the Miriam Cemetery in Bethany.
Kenneth W. (Kenny) Fales, 62, passed away Sunday, Jan. 24, 2010 at his home. Services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 27 at the First Christian Church in Gallatin. Family visitation was held on Tuesday evening at the church. Burial was at the Lake Viking Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Comfort Care Hospice of Cameron or the Cameron Swim Team in care of the funeral home.
