Gallatin club hears from international teacher

Laureate Delta Rho chapter of Beta Sigma Phi met at Peggy Noel’s home on March 19. Kay Kordes introduced her guest, Cindy Fuller, who spoke on her work with the International School Teachers Association. The program was on her teaching in Thailand, Cyprus, Puerto Rico, and Germany.

Nuclear power is a part of the solution

Energy prices continue to climb, having a major impact on family budgets in Missouri. Meanwhile, our nation’s unemployment rate continues to hover around double digits. In Washington, those problems are seen as two separate issues. They shouldn’t be. We can create a win-win situation for Missourians if we find solutions that tackle both problems simultaneously.

In a year destined to be dominated by election year politics, farmers are hopeful congressional lawmakers will complete a new farm bill before the current one expires on September 30. It won’t be a fun or pretty process, but it’s important for American agriculture, rural America and those who care about food production. GHCAA announces new CEO

Aaron Franklin, Princeton, has been hired as the new chief executive officer for Green Hills Community Action Agency. Franklin, who previously served as branch manager of the U.S. Bank of Princeton, began his duties on Monday, March 19.

County hopes to fill gap in emergency planning with Red Cross training

The Daviess County Commissioners know their priority is the safety of their friends and neighbors. Daviess County has prepared for disaster response in a variety of ways over the course of the past couple of years, acquiring three 60K generators, a 50-person cot trailer equipped with shelter supplies, and identifying potential emergency shelter facilities within the community.

City hall to get new roof

During their regular meeting held March 26, City Administrator Zac Johnson told the Gallatin Board of Aldermen that the city will be accepting bids to have the roof repaired at city hall. Johnson also stated he met with Snyder Engineering last Friday to discuss the location of the new water plant.

Capitol Report: Prioritizing our expenditures

Crafting the state budget is the most important thing we do each session. Over the last several decades, there have been hundreds of programs created that now take vital resources away from our schools, roads, public safety, and our most vulnerable citizens. This year, we are facing an approximate $400 million shortfall which is forcing us to look at every program and make a decision whether or not it is consistent with the goals of our founding fathers and/or our responsibility to the citizens and taxpayers of our state.

NCMC receives national recognition for ag program

Toyota Motor Sales, USA awarded a brand new Toyota Tundra truck to the North Central Missouri College (NCMC) Ag Department. NCMC’s program earned the truck as part of being honored with the Outstanding Postsecondary/Adult Agricultural Education Program Award from the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).

Betty A. Pierce 1931-2012

Betty A. Pierce 81 of Gallatin passed away Monday March 26, 2012 at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph. Services will be held at 1:00pm Friday March 30th at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Visitation will be held 6-8pm Thursday evening where friends may call after 11. Cremation will follow the service. In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial contributions to the Betty Pierce Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home.
