County Commission
James Lewis, bridge supervisor, reported that they are working in the Jamesport area this week. They discussed the bridge evaluation (BEAP) reports for three bridges and the repairs that can be made by county maintenance employees. Only one, on Cedar Avenue, can be reconstructed by the county.

The Gallatin R-5 High School band competed at District Music Contest on Friday, March 23, with the following results:
Gallatin varsity track athletes waited an extra four days to open their 2012 spring track season, but did so Monday at Trenton’s Early Bird Relays despite a shorthanded girls’ effort due to FBLA competition.
Gallatin’s junior high girls won five events and captured the team title at Monday’s Early Bird Relays held at Worth County High School. A victory in the 4×400-meter relay helped Gallatin’s boys take a sixth place finish among 12 schools competing.
Despite soggy conditions, Gallatin R-5 men’s golfers hit the links in Maysville for their season opener last Thursday afternoon.
With FBLA and FFA competitions out of the way, Gallatin track returned to full strength at North Platte on Tuesday. The girls placed second to DeKalb in a close race for the team crown. The Bulldog boys finished middle of the pack in sixth.
Have you ever approached Gallatin R-5 Athletic Field for a high school football game to be confronted with two games B the official one on the field under the lights and the other played with make-your-own-rules in the shadows? Sometimes the latter game is more interesting.

I didn’t know until early this week that March is noted as Women’s History Month when an editorial appeared in the San Marcos Daily Record.
Frank Frazier Post 2172 and Ladies Auxiliary are proud to announce Michelle Monteith as the first place winner of the Young American Patriot Art Contest. Michelle received $50. In addition, her art work will go onto department judging at the state level.
The Natural Resources Conservation Service and University of Missouri Extension will present seminars on managing livestock grazing and forages in April and August 2012. The "schools" will be offered at Gallatin, April 13 and 14 and in Savannah, August 29 and 30.

All staff members were hired back for next school year during the meeting of the Pattonsburg R-2 Board of Education held Tuesday, March 20. One staff member from North Daviess, Kim Fish, was also retained. She will be 3/8 time at Pattonsburg teaching Spanish I and Spanish II.
