Toyota Motor Sales, USA awarded a brand new Toyota Tundra truck to the North Central Missouri College (NCMC) Ag Department. NCMC’s program earned the truck as part of being honored with the Outstanding Postsecondary/Adult Agricultural Education Program Award from the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).
David Nowland and Rustin Jumps received the truck keys on behalf the NCMC ag department on March 22 at the Area 2 Ag Contest Day. About 1,400 students and advisors were on hand to join in the festivities. Rob Major, Kansas City Region District Manager for Toyota Motor Sales, presented the keys to the 2012 Toyota Tundra during the opening remarks at the event.
Rustin Jumps, David Nowland and Bill Heinkebein are the instructors of the Agriculture and Natural Resources Department at North Central Missouri College. The three gentlemen saw a need for an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree that would transfer to a four year university. There are two different AAS degrees with which you can graduate from NCMC. The first is an agriculture and natural resources degree, which is intended for students that wish to pursue a four-year degree in agribusiness or the management of agriculture or natural resources. The other emphasis is equine management and is designed for students that wish to seek a career in equine production or management.
To earn their AAS degrees, students must complete general pre-requisites plus 17 credit hours of electives in agriculture and natural resources. These specific transfer credits have been developed through Northwest Missouri State University and the University of Missouri-Columbia.
"NAAE is honored to have an international company like Toyota recognize the value of U.S. agricultural education and the dedication of the teachers who make it all possible," said NAAE Executive Director Jay Jackman. "Coordinating the relationship through the FFA makes the relationship’s impact on the country’s agricultural community even stronger. We are thrilled to be part of such a worthwhile, engaging sponsorship."
