The regional jail by itself is set to lose about $320,000 based on income and outgo in 2012, according to the Profit & Loss Previous Year Comparison with Budget presented at a budget meeting of the Daviess-DeKalb Regional Jail held Dec. 16.
The Daviess County Commissioners and Sheriff Ben Becerra have agreed together that public safety at the courthouse will be much better served by a simple move of the metal detector from its present location on the second floor to the first floor.

County Commission
Carl Carder reported that he had contacted Missouri Department of Transportation requesting "horse-drawn vehicle" signs on State Routes M, J, 13, CC, and D. The state will place those signs, with Chris Cole as the contact person. The commission will contact the landowners informing them of the law regarding reflectors on their transportation vehicles and equipment.
Gallatin High School brought in the most food (1273 items) with Winston R-6 coming in for a strong second place win.

It’s very rare that Washington has a chance to do something which will help to create thousands of jobs, and decrease energy prices, at no cost to taxpayers. You would think that a deal like that would sail through Congress and be signed quickly by the President. However in Washington, common sense often takes a back seat to politics.
Christmas is not just for those in the city where stores are abundant and bright lights shine pretty.
Each year the Christmas season starts earlier and gets busier as we are bombarded with holiday sales specials and social gatherings. As we juggle various family gatherings, social events, and finding just the right gifts for loved ones, it is easy to be diverted from the real meaning and blessings of the Christmas season.
Ornamental plants are a great way to make your home festive for the holidays. Stealing a kiss under the mistletoe or hanging a holly wreath to welcome guests are both lovely traditions. What’s not so lovely is that both these plants are toxic.

Funeral services for Debby Thiele were held Monday, Dec. 19, at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment was at Masonic Cemetery, Eagleville. The family suggests memorial gifts of the donor’s choice to one of the charities of Harvesters, Big Brothers, Big Sisters, and Habitat for Humanity or to the donor’s choice.
Viva Jean Parks, 83, of Gallatin, passed away Friday, Dec. 16, 2011, at Quail Run Health Care Center in Cameron. Services were held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the First Baptist Church in Gallatin. Family visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin First Baptist Church, or Hospice Advantage in Gallatin, in care of McWilliams Funeral Home.
