The ninth annual H.O.P.E. Food Drive was held the week before Thanksgiving at the Searcy Elementary School in Gallatin. H.O.P.E. stands for “Helping Other People Eat.” This year the students collected 533 food items which were donated to the Daviess County Food Pantry in Gallatin. The municipal election process will soon begin for all cities and towns, townships, road districts, schools, ambulance districts, public water supply districts and six of the nine fire districts in the county. Candidate filings will be accepted from Dec. 13, 2011 until Jan. 17, 2012. Anyone interested in filing should contact the respective board for forms.

The Daviess County Salary Commission convened Tuesday to determine salaries for those county officeholders who will be elected in 2012. After an hour and a half of discussion, the salary commission approved a motion which essentially raises the pay of those offices by 1.5%. This increase will not take effect until the next change of term in 2013. The total increase in salary expense to the county in 2013 will be $9,274.64.
