Gallatin High School recently announced those students listed on the first quarter honor roll.
Four Gallatin High School band students played the Star Spangled Banner at the beginning of the high school football game Oct. 22. The students are Andrew Carder, Palmer Turley, Mitchell Vanderslice, and Tyler Avriette kneeling in front. Band instructor Gene Edwards is standing in back.
Riley Rains of Gallatin has been awarded the Miller-Morse Scholarship and Rachel Hangley of Pattonsburg has been awarded the August and Gladys Braksick Scholarship from the University of Missouri College of Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources for the 2010-2011 academic year.
"Scholarships enable us to recruit and retain outstanding students to our college," said Bryan Garton, associate dean of academic programs.
Rains, a junior majoring in biochemistry, is the son of David and Julie Rains. Hangley, a junior majoring in agribusiness management, is the daughter of Steve Hangley and Dana Shipers.
All Winston High School staff were trained in CPR and the use of the AED device during the Oct. 4 professional development in-service. The elementary staff will be trained in CPR and the AED device at the November professional development

Kimberly Ann Shipers, 47, Pattonsburg, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2010.
Fallis J. Froman, 91, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2010, at the Liberty Hospital. Services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Private family burial was at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Joseph. Memorial contributions are suggested to Our Lady of Mercy Country Home, 2115 Maturana Dr., Liberty, Mo. 64068 or University of Missouri Office of Development Alumni Center, 109 Reynolds, Columbia, Mo. 65221.
Johna Wilson, 52, passed away Monday, Oct. 25, 2010 at her sister’s home in Gallatin. Services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27, at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Family visitation was held one hour prior to the service. Burial was in the Rosehill Cemetery near Breckenridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Johna to the Gallatin Theatre League, or a charity of choice, in care of the funeral home.
Memorial services for Virgil Albert were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at Mabel Worship Center. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Connie Albert. Mr. Albert has been cremated under the direction of Poland-Thompson Funeral Home, Cameron.
The Missouri Department of Social Services’ Rehabilitation Services for the Blind is tops in the nation among state vocational rehabilitation agencies that exclusively serve the blind.
