The board was informed that the Distinction in Performance award was officially given to the Winston R-6 School District for the 2010-2011 school year at the Oct. 19 meeting. This recognition is reserved for K-12 school districts that meet at least 13 out of 14 performance standards on their Annual Performance Report. The Winston R-VI School District received a score of 14 out of 14. 

The Full Waiver MSIP Review for the Winston R-VI School District is scheduled for Jan. 18, 2011. The school was granted the full waiver due to the improvement in Annual Performance Report status.

Elementary attendance rate for September was 97.95%

September elementary students of the month were Abigail Robinson, fourth grade, and Jacob Hullinger, fifth grade.

Fire Safety Week was Oct. 3-8. Students took a field trip to the fire station, watched a fire safety video and checked out the fire trucks. The Winston Fire Department provided this service to the students.

Red Ribbon Week is Oct. 25-29. Students will be participating in various activities and spirit dress throughout the week.

Positive Behavior Support (PBS) is continuing to gradually be implemented into the elementary. By the beginning of the 2011-12 school year, PBS will be fully implemented.

Fall parties will be from 2-3 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29.

October character word of the month is "honesty." When a student is seen being honest, their name is put into a box. At the end of each week, all students will receive a special treat for being responsible, and then at the end of the month, the "Student of the Month" will be picked from the group.

High school attendance rate for September was 95.64%.

New common core standards are coming from DESE for English and math.

High school "Students of the Month" were Rachel Brice, senior, and Jayson Bird, junior.

Program reports were approved in the areas of technology resources, federal programs and transportation.

Michael Pulley was approved as the assistant varsity girls basketball coach.

A first reading was held of the Missouri Consultants for Education semi annual board policy updates.

Coming Events: Oct. 28 – picture make up day; elementary fall festival and trunk or treat; Nov. 8 – Dismiss early for professional development; Nov. 18 – PTO meeting; Nov. 24 – dismiss early for Thanksgiving break.

The next board meeting is 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 18.
