Local woman recognized for donation, to be broadcast on Channel 5

Dolores Duck of Altamont will be pinning a star on the board at the Ameristar Casino in Kansas City in recognition of her club’s donation to the Muscular Dystrophy Foundation Jerry Lewis Telethon. Dolores is a member of the Heart of America Champs RV and Camping Club. The club held a bake sale and raised $601 for MDA. Channel 5 will broadcast the event live at 1 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 7, Labor Day. Dolores has muscular dystrophy. She will be accompanied by her husband, Bruce.

Storm takes second in Midwest championships

The 14U C Midwest Championships in Kansas City were held July 9-12. Among the teams present was GR Storm comprised of players from Pattonsburg, Winston, Maysville, Bethany, Cameron and Eagleville. They played 11 games, including a two-game championship match. They won the first game of the championship against the Fireballz, another northwest Missouri team, 8-1, but lost the final game (their fifth in a row, coming up through the loser’s bracket), 8-7.

Seven charged with selling liquor to minors

Seven individuals have been charged with selling liquor to minors after a compliance investigation conducted by the Missouri Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Control on Aug. 17. Nineteen compliance checks took place in Daviess, DeKalb, Clinton and Caldwell counties.

Graveside services and military honors for Edward J. McMahon will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Labor Day, Sept. 7, for the inurnment of ashes at St. John’s Cemetery, Gilman City.
