Working under the direction of LZ Productions, the teens became the focus of the Ag Lifestyles program as they met and interviewed a variety of equine specialists in the Stephenville, Texas area. Some of the professionals included leading embryologist Brad Stroud, DVM and Craig Cameron, renowned horsemanship clinician.

Texas, Oklahoma and Kansas were the destinations of the 2009 trip in late May. The Missouri 4-H teens were able to explore varied aspects of the indigenous horse industry which included Quarter Horse racing, a custom boot maker, western art, professional horse trainers and breeders, rodeos, professional horse productions and spent the last night on a working cattle ranch in the Flint Hills.

This annual trip has proven to be a popular and valuable learning experience for Missouri 4-H teens as evidenced by two-thirds of the 51 participants having traveled in previous years. In evaluations of the trip, the teens highly value the wide variety of opportunities exploring equine related careers to couple with their equine passion.

The 2010 trip will focus on equine careers and the horse industry in Colorado and Nebraska occurring in late May with registration information at: http://mo4h.missouri.edu/events/horse/ Also, photos of the 2009 trip can be found at this same website.
