A resolution was approved during the regular meeting of the Winston R-6 Board of Education held Aug. 20 calling for the redemption of a portion of general obligation bonds held by the district.

This will prepay all the bonds that are to be paid in 2020 ($20,000) and half of the bonds that are to be paid in 2019 ($10,000). This will save the district approximately $1,800 per year and eliminate an entire year of the school’s bond amortization schedule.
Enrollment for preschool is 17, held steady from last year. Enrollment for kindergarten through 12th grade is 176, up from 164 last year.
The board approved additions to the substitute list.
The board heard requests for student tuition waivers for non-resident students.
The board heard a request for a bus transportation waiver.
Representatives form the village of Winston were present to discuss concerns related to the city’s sewer system.
Participation in the federal special milk program was approved.
Bus routes and class schedules were approved.
Principal Abby Smith was approved as the district compliance officer.
The conflict of interest ordinance from the Missouri Ethics Commission was re-adopted.
The district’s tax rate hearing was postponed until 7 p.m. on Aug. 31 in the Winston High School Library.
Closed session was held for student matters.
The next regular board meeting is set for Thursday, Sept. 17.
The first softball game is at Pattonsburg on Aug. 25.
The first home softball game is at 5:30 p.m. against Gilman City on Aug. 27.
