ACRE program enrollment now open

Kirby Payne, executive director of USDA’s Farm Service Agency in Daviess County announced that producers can elect and enroll in the Average Crop Revenue Election (ACRE) program beginning April 27. ACRE is a provision of the 2008 Farm Bill.

SH Relays, GRC track meet wrap up regular season

Gallatin varsity track teams found good weather and competitive action at last Thursday’s Albany Relays. The Bulldogs see their season winding down with tomorrow’s schedule trip to South Harrison and a return to Albany next Tuesday for the conference meet.

Peggy Belshe

1927 – 2009

Peggy Belshe, 82, passed away Thursday April 23, 2009 at her home near Gallatin. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 27 at McWilliams Funeral Home in Gallatin. Family visitation was held prior to the service. Burial was in the Hillcrest Cemetery near Gallatin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Charles Belshe Scholarship Fund in care of the funeral home.

Clarence William Lear, 79, formerly of Pattonsburg, now of Charlotte, N.C., passed away at his home April 22.

A memorial service for Laura Clapham will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2009, at Roberson Funeral Home, Bethany. Her family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice.

MDA sets hearing for May 28 to establish payout plan

The Missouri Department of Agriculture has set an administrative hearing for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 28, at the Gallatin High School to establish a payout plan for distributing the proceeds of bonds to farmers who lost money when the Gallatin Grain Company went out of business.

Update on swine flu in Daviess County

Currently there have been no cases of swine flu identified in Missouri, according to Cheryl Alexander, administrator at the Daviess County Health Department. Nevertheless, state and local health officials and the medical community have been on high alert since Friday because of the contagious nature of the new flu virus.
