Brammer, Jones tour capital in Washington

Drew Jones, Chillicothe, and Breanne Brammer, Gallatin, are pictured on their trip to Washington, D.C., courtesy of Farmers’ Electric Cooperative. Breanne wrote one of the top two essays in the cooperative’s 47th Annual Youth Tour to Washington essay contest. Drew was the other essay winner.

Young Redbirds attend NWMSU basketball camp

A dozen Winston Redbirds recently attended basketball camp for grades 6-9 at Northwest Missouri State University. Lester Nelson 1944-2010

Memorial services for Lester Nelson, will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 4, at the First Christian Church in Gallatin. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Gallatin Active Ageing Resource Center, in care of the funeral home.

Jeffrey Hunt 1956-2010

Jeffrey Martin Hunt, 53, Altamont, died Saturday, June 26, 2010, at the Cameron Regional Medical Center. There are no scheduled services planned.

Jameson native receives medical degree

Jeremy Wilson Hunter was one of 247 medical students who received the doctor of osteopathic medicine (D.O.) degree from Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences in commencement ceremonies on May 15 in Kansas City.

Deputy receives instructor certification for weapons

Daviess County Deputy Larry Adams completed the NRA Instruction Certification for assault rifle, handgun and shotgun on June 25. The two-week session consisted of classroom training, mechanics of the weapons, and firing range.

Reserve Deputy James Baker attended the handgun and shotgun portion of the training.

Because of Deputy Adams’ instructor certification, the Daviess County Sheriffs Office will be able to train more frequently, meet law enforcement and insurance guidelines, and save a significant amount of money for Daviess County.

Arthur Thomas Taul descendants gathered at Crowder State Park over the June 19 weekend to celebrate the lives created by the marriage of Arthur Thomas and Mary Ann Johnson.

Sheriff’s Office

Edward Sanders, 39, Kansas City, was arrested June 28 for felony tampering with a motor vehicle, and misdemeanor false impersonation and no valid license. Sanders was stopped on I-35 after a report was made that he did not pay for gas at a Bethany convenience store.

Sanders gave an false name to Sergeant J.J. Rongey, who then found that the car had been reported stolen from Cook County, Ill. A search of the vehicle by Corporal L.M. Newman located an Illinois identification card which identified the driver as Edward Sanders. Sanders has no operator’s license in either Missouri or Illinois. Sanders is being held on $35,000 bond.

A passenger in the car, Kristia Berg, Kansas City, was charged with misdemeanor tampering with a motor vehicle second degree and is being held on $1,000 bond.

PuppetFest MidWest in Trenton July 6

Puppeteers from around the world will be arriving in Trenton for the eighth annual PuppetFest MidWest at North Central Missouri College and at the Hoover Theater on July 6-11. Festival Directors Peter Allen and Debbie Lutzky Allen from Jamesport are pleased to announce the slate of performers for this season. This event is funded by the Rumpelstiltskin Society, a not-for-profit corporation created to inspire, strengthen and renew commitment to live puppet theatre. Additional funding is provided by the Missouri Arts Council.
