Rain forced postponement of the Saturday night racing program for the second straight week, making for a rescheduled date for the Miller Lite Outlaw 305 winged sprint cars.
Sept. 1 marks the beginning of a new year for 4-H in Missouri. The new program year will include the enrollment and re-enrollment of Missouri youth and their families in a program that is about more than cows and cakes.
Daviess County 4-H clubs recently held their Achievement Day and Contest Day.
Bryan and Sherri Hefley, Oronogo, announce the birth of their son, Coen Robert, at 2:06 a.m. on April 28, 2006, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Coen weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces, and was 20 ½ inches long.
Saturday, Aug. 19, 70 Swoffords gathered at Dockery Park in Gallatin to enjoy their biennial reunion. A bountiful carry-in lunch was enjoyed y people from nine states. In addition to Missouri there were family members from Iowa, Texas, Kansas, Arkansas, New Mexico, Virginia, Rhode Island, and New York.

Two Altamont women received moderate injuries in a one-vehicle accident at 140th Street, one mile east of Winston in Daviess County, according to a report by the Missouri Highway Patrol.
University of Missouri Hundley Whaley research center announces its annual field crop tour at 1109 S. Birch St., Albany. The tour is set for Wednesday, Sept. 6. Riding tours start at 8 a.m. Last tour starts at 1 p.m.
Don Caillouet with Layne Western submitted the test results from the Specific Capacity Testing of the North and South water wells during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Monday, Aug. 28, at city hall.

Missouri’s largest organization representing the interests and concerns of senior citizens today announced that it is endorsing Proposition B, an initiative that will raise Missouri’s minimum wage from $5.15 to $6.50 an hour. AARP Missouri notes that the increase will help thousands of Missourians over the age of 50 who are struggling to make ends meet.
