Don Caillouet with Layne Western submitted the test results from the Specific Capacity Testing of the North and South water wells during the regular meeting of the Gallatin Board of Aldermen held Monday, Aug. 28, at city hall.

Mr. Caillouet suggested that the waterline pipes from the wells to the water plant need to be cleaned, which Layne Western does not perform. Also he suggested that both wells be cleaned and checked for any problems. He will have a proposal for the board at the next meeting regarding the cleaning of the wells.

City Administrator Johnson submitted a resignation letter to the board from Kenneth King, East Ward Aldermen, which the board accepted. Mr. King explained that he had accepted employment out of town and didn’t think he would be able to attend all the meetings and that wouldn’t be fair to the citizens of Gallatin.

Police Chief Richards reported on activity from 8/14/2006 to 8/28/2006. Reports Taken/Tickets Given: 3-Speeding; 1-Stop Sign; 2-No Insurance; 1-Nuisance Violation; 1-DUI; 1-Curfew Violation; 1-Uninvited Solicitors; 2-No Insurance; 3-No Seat Belt (Children); 1-Minor in Possession of Cigarettes; 1-Fail to Register a Motor Vehicle; 1-Leaving the Scene of an Accident; 1-Failure to keep to the Right Side of the Roadway; 3-Minor in Possession of Alcohol. There are six dogs in the pound.

Police Chief Richards stated that radios have been received that were purchased through a grant and he has submitted for grant reimbursement from SEMA. Also Chief Richards attended a meeting last Friday sponsored by Marcit Insurance.

Bills in the amount of $32,844.61 were approved for payment.

The board passed ordinances extending the 45 mph speed zone on south Main Street and establishing stop signs at designated intersections.

Lockridge inquired about the Park Board meeting on Aug. 17, specifically the Skatepark issue. Mayor Ballew attended the meeting and would like to encourage the Park Board and the community to support the construction of a Skatepark in Gallatin.

Caldwell made a motion to approve the liquor license for Cycles restaurant.

A motion passed to accept the removal of Shari Troyer from the Park Board.

If anyone is interested in being on the Park Board they need to contact a Park Board member or the City Administrator.

City Administrator Johnson informed the Board that Rotary is wanting to have a carnival at the Chatauqua this year. The carnival would set up on the street in front of city hall.

Mayor Ballew has been working with Mr. Johnson on a sample of a banner and will continue to do so until the board is ready to present a final banner to the public.

Mayor Ballew suggested that community service workers could help in city hall with cleaning of the office.

The board entered into closed session pursuant to legal actions and litigation.
