A St. Joseph man was arrested after a traffic stop on MO-6 Highway for driving while intoxicated and possession of a controlled substance on Feb. 26.
Mariano Torres, 32, St. Joseph, was traveling east on MO-6 at a 97 miles per hour where the posted speed limit is 60. Highway Patrolman Tpr. J. Lynch reported that Torres was intoxicated and arrested him for DWI aggravated. Torres was searched and found with a baggie of a controlled substance in his front right pants pocket.
Torres has three prior convictions of DWI from Buchanan County and a history of criminal convictions including stealing, resisting arrest, property damage, and domestic assault. Torres is also limited to driving with an ignition interlock in the vehicle. The black Chevrolet Trailblazer he was stopped in did not have the required ignition interlock.
Torres was charged with DWI, D felony; possession of a controlled substance, D felony, and multiple misdemeanors for speeding, failure to comply with ignition interlock device requirements, failure to drive on right half of roadway when roadway was of sufficient width, and an infraction for failure to display plates on a motor vehicle.
Torres was transported to Daviess DeKalb County Regional Jail.
