A two-year superintendent contract to Daniel Street was extended during the meeting of the North Daviess School Board held Jan. 18.

Superintendent Street gave the board a COVID update. He sent a survey out to staff to gather information regarding a mask mandate. He also noted during the facilities update that the district will need some furnace repairs soon.

North Daviess will host the Daviess County Spelling Bee with the tentative date set for Feb 1 at 4 p.m. Two students will compete from each class from grades fifth through eighth.

The Hazard Mitigation Plan with Green Hills Regional Planning Commission was approved.

A three-year contract with Mid-States Services for internet services was accepted.

The board discussed a bus grant application through the Department of Natural Resources. The board also discussed fixing or replacing a passenger vehicle.

Two have signed up for school board election: Amy McMahon and Paul Caven. The election is set for April 6.

A snow removal bid from Bob Woosley was accepted.

Principal Kelly Hightree reported enrollment at 54 with two in preschool; 23 in elementary; and 29 in high school. She reported that teachers returned to school Jan. 4 and students returned Jan. 5 after the Christmas break. Grades three through six and their classroom teachers and a few others were in quarantine on Jan. 6 while all students and teachers did AMIX. DEAR Day was Jan. 8. No school was held Jan. 15 due to bad weather. Gilman City Homecoming was Jan. 22. Junior High Scholar Bowl meets at North Daviess on Feb. 3.

The board went into executive meeting to discuss employee and student matters.

Next board meeting was set for 6 p.m. on Feb. 15.
