Due to the snow, ice, sleet, hail, and dropping temperature that accompanies time of year, the pavement may wear down significantly, especially on roads with preexisting cracks and craters. MoDot workers will be making necessary repairs when the weather permits it.

Becky Allmeroth, chief safety and operations officer at MoDot, prompts people on the road to look out for MoDot vehicles signaling roadwork in a recent statewide press release regarding the time of year.

“You might not expect to see us in anything except snowplows during these winter months, but the reality is there is still road and bridge maintenance to be done,” said Allmeroth. “Stay alert for our slow-moving work zones making these repairs, even when you least expect it.”

MoDot safety and repair vehicles were hit 48 times in 2020 because drivers failed to slow down in work zones, creating more danger for the workers repairing potholes and bridges next to oncoming traffic. Allmeroth states in the press release that the vehicles have flashing lights and arrows to signal oncoming traffic specifically for this reason, as well as the safety of all drivers sharing the road.
