MSBA FutureBuilders established the scholarship program in memory of John T. Belcher, who was instrumental in developing innovative financing programs for Missouri school districts. The learning environment for thousands of Missouri public school students improved as a result of his work.

Caragan will now have a chance at a $1,000 annual scholarship awarded to a student in each of MSBA’s 17 regions. Applicants are judged on the basis of academic performance, extracurricular activities and the quality of an essay. A statewide winner is selected from this group of regional winners and awarded an additional $1,500.

Attending to other items on the agenda, the R-5 board approved the final 2019-20 audit report presented by Mark Higgins of Conrad & Higgins, LLC.

The final Daviess County CARES monies to be reimbursed have been submitted to the county.

Angela Wayne was hired as special education aide for the remainder of the 2020-2021 school year.

Superintendent, principals, and activities director presented reports. Amy Holder and Ron Alden presented their FFA vocational report.

The Belcher Scholarship applications were reviewed in closed session and the board also discussed personnel.

Next meeting was set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 14.
