To help provide information in a quicker and more efficient manner during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Winston R-6 School District has developed a graphic of the current quarantines that the school is experiencing, while still following legal and ethical privacy rules. The graphic does not reflect a total for the year. It is the number of students and staff quarantined at the specific date. The school will attempt to keep the graph as up-to-date as possible.

The information that will be shared will be the following:

  1. The current number of students and staff that are quarantined because they have tested positive for COVID-19;
  2. The current number of students and staff that are quarantined because they were determined to be a close contact with someone that was COVID-19 positive while in the school setting and
  3. The number of students and staff that are quarantined because they were determined to be a close contact with someone that was COVID-19 positive while outside the school setting.

This graphic and future positive COVID notices are now being posted under the heading “District COVID Notices” on the Winston R-6 School District homepage at winston.k12.mo.us.

“We feel that the Winston R-6 School District is doing a good job of social distancing to reduce close contact quarantines while in the school setting,” Superintendent Brian Robinson wrote in a letter to the Winston community. “Parents are doing a great job of keeping students at home when they are sick and utilizing distance learning. Teachers have prepared our students thoroughly for this option and all teachers are actively using it during their class time. The overwhelming majority of students that have had to be quarantined by the county health department have been close contacts outside of the school setting. Currently we are at our lowest number since our first positive on Sept. 13.”

Winston continues to work with the Daviess County Health Department which determines which students/staff need to be quarantined based on CDC close contact guidelines. Those that are determined to be in close contact will remain off campus for up to 14 calendar days to ensure they do not have the virus and to help reduce further spread. If you are not contacted by the Daviess County Health Department directly, it is not believed that your child was directly exposed when there is determined to have been positive COVID-19 individual in the school building.

As always, please continue to watch for COVID-19 symptoms.  If your child is sick or not feeling well for any reason, please do not send them to school, utilize distance learning.

The Winston R-6 School District will remain open for students as scheduled.  If for any reason this has to be altered, the school will notify the community of the required changes.
