Kodi Souders, 27, Chillicothe, was arrested Oct. 31 after threatening several family members at knifepoint. Souders arrived at the family home at Jamesport at approximately 3 a.m. According to the probable cause statement, Souders was exhibiting agitated and paranoid behavior and had grabbed a large kitchen knife to defend himself. The victims attempted to reason with him throughout the early morning hours, until one of the victims was able to sneak out of the house to call for help at approximately 8 a.m.

When Daviess County Deputy Loreanna Parker arrived, Souders was convinced to step outside the residence. Souders ignored the deputy’s instructions not to re-enter the home and was physically restrained. Souders pulled his left hand out of the handcuffs. He was then re-handcuffed and placed in the patrol vehicle.

Souders reportedly has a long history of mental illness but has refused to take medication. He has a criminal history of domestic assaults, stealing, stealing a vehicle, and endangering the welfare of a child. Family members said that Souders may be using methamphetamine again. He is on parole.

He was charged with domestic assault first degree, resisting arrest for a felony, and kidnapping third degree. He was transported to Daviess DeKalb County Regional Jail (DDCRJ). Bond was denied.
