The national outcome of yesterday’s presidential election has yet to be determined, but there’s no question about who won in Daviess County. President Donald J. Trump received an overwhelming endorsement for re-election in local results, receiving 79% of the vote over Democrat rival Joe Biden.

Every Republican candidate won on ballots cast in Daviess County except one where Democrat Lacey Corwin was unopposed for Collector/Treasurer.
The Republican landslide includes the closest locally contested race. Republican Aaron Piburn defeated incumbent Democrat Assessor Sally Black with a 53.8% majority. Mr. Piburn received 293 more votes than Mrs. Black, 2,058 to 1,765. This will be Piburn’s first term in public office.
The other contested race of local interest was not as close. Incumbent Republican Commissioner Wayne Uthe easily defeated Democrat challenger Greg Houghton. Uthe garnered almost a 70% majority. Both Missouri constitutional amendments presented on yesterday’s ballot were approved by Daviess Countians. But Amendment 1 concerning term limits on some state officeholders, failed statewide. Amendment 3, concerning redistricting procedures, passed locally with a 61% majority and passed statewide.
