Social distancing requirements that have been implemented in Gallatin R-5 Schools during the COVID-19 pandemic have led the school district to the decision to not hold in-person parent-teacher conferences for the first quarter of the 2020-21 school year.

Middle School Principal Justin Collins explained the decision in a letter to parents posted online on Oct. 19.

Parent-teacher conferences are an important way for teachers to learn more about their students from parents, and provide feedback to parents about their students’ academic progress, Collins noted.

The decision to not hold in-person conferences was not a preferred choice by the district, but the safety and well-being of students, staff, parents, and community members must be prioritized.

GMS teachers have begun the process of contacting the parents of students that are receiving less than a C (70%) average in their classes, but this does not mean that teachers will not conference with parents about the student’s progress if so desired. If parents do desire a conference, they may contact their child’s teacher by email or by calling (660) 663-2172 and leaving a message with Mrs. Chadwick. Staff email addresses can be found on the school website.

GMS teachers will be reaching out to offer parents the opportunity to participate in conferences by phone, email, and digital platforms. GMS teachers will work with parents to make sure that parent teacher conferences are scheduled during a time that they are mutually available to meet.

If you have any questions regarding parent teacher conferences, please feel free to contact Principal Collins at (660) 663-2172 or by email at [email protected].
