Albert Donald (Don) Harris was born July 4, 1930, in Gentry, the son of Charles Wesley and Bertha Opal (Malson) Harris. He died on Oct. 13, 2020, at his home in Albany, at the age of 90.
He was a graduate of Albany High, class of 1948.
In February of 1952, Don joined the Army as part of the 40th Signal Corp. He went on to fight in the Korean War where he became staff sergeant. Don was awarded the Korean Service Medal, two Bronze Service Stars, United Nation Service Medal, Nation Defense Service Medal, and Good Conduct Medal. In January of ’54 Don transferred to the Army Reserve to complete eight years of service.
Don married Ruby Irene Gillespie Harris on June 13, 1954, in Princeton.
Don was a member of the Union Baptist Church of Carmack and the First Baptist Church of Albany.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; son, Rodney; brothers Louis and Martin; and sister Marjorie Harris Asher.
Don is survived by daughter, Donna (Randy) Teel; daughter, Terri (Nick) Tompkins, Albany; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and sister, Deloris Harris (Bill) McKahan.
Funeral services were held Oct. 17 at the Roberson-Polley Chapel, Albany. Burial with Military Rites in the Carmack Cemetery, Albany. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Carmack Cemetery.
