Allison Derwinis, 27, Bethany, was charged Oct. 12 with stealing controlled substance and possession of controlled substance, both D felonies, and misdemeanors of speeding, failure to stop at stop sign and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the probable cause statement, Daviess County Deputy Dalton Youtsey observed Derwinis in Gallatin in a red Nissan Sentra after receiving a report of a reckless driver coming south on Highway 13 from Jameson. Deputy Youtsey conducted a traffic stop on West Grand Street in Gallatin for speeding and for driving into the middle of the intersection before stopping at the four-way stop located at Highway 13 and Grand Street.
During a consent search of the vehicle, a controlled substance was located, as well as an unknown white powder and unknown clear liquid, drug paraphernalia and other items, in a pink purse. The deputy seized the purse and its contents as evidence.
After Derwinis waived her Miranda rights, she told the deputy that she was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Daviess County Nursing and Rehab, which is where she was headed at the time. She also said that the controlled substance, Lorazepam, belonged to a resident at the center. The nursing home confirmed that the resident to whom the Lorazepam belonged does take and require the medication. Derwinis stated that she was going to take it back to work.
Derwinis was arrested and taken to Daviess DeKalb County Regional Jail. Bond was set at a personal recognizance bond.
