Ryan Massey, 47, Trenton, was arrested Aug. 12, after Daviess County Deputy Dalton Youtsey observed Massey swerving off of the road into the grass and then back onto the highway as he traveled eastbound on Highway 6 from Altamont. As Deputy Youtsey attempted a traffic stop on the blue SUV, the vehicle continued eastward and traveled over the center of the highway into the oncoming lane of traffic on Highway 6 near Highway DD, finally stopping at the entrance to Terry Implement. Massey was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
According to court documents, Massey was trying to hide a pill bottle between his legs as he exited his vehicle. The deputy had to assist Massey to keep him from falling to the ground. Massey performed poorly on the standard field sobriety test, and was placed under arrest for DWI. He was taken to Daviess DeKalb County Regional Jail for possession of controlled substance and DWI. Bond was denied.
During booking, it was determined that the pills in the bottle were not fluoxetine as labeled, but rather Alprazolam, a schedule 4 controlled substance. Massey admitted that he had smoked marijuana about four hours prior to the traffic stop and has multiple convictions dating back to 1998, including an active warrant from St. Joseph Police Department for failure to appear on a charge of larceny.
