On July 26, Bryan Norton, 40, Kansas City, was arrested for trafficking drugs second degree, C felony, possession of controlled substance, D felony, operating vehicle on highway without a valid license second offense, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, misdemeanors.
Norton was driving a Ford F-150 pickup with an expired Missouri license when he was stopped by Trooper D. Wilburn at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Missouri Highway 6 just east of Missouri Highway 13. A white female passenger was identified as Amy L. Johnson. The driver, Norton, advised the trooper he did not have his license because his wallet had been stolen. While Norton was in the trooper’s vehicle, a computer check revealed that Norton’s license was suspended and that he had six prior convictions for driving while suspended.
Norton refused to consent to a search of his vehicle for the presence of illegal substances. The DeKalb County Canine Unit responded to the scene and an open air sniff indicated the presence of controlled substances. A search of the vehicle revealed 61 grams of a substance believed to be methamphetamine, as well as pills believed to be Diazepam, drug paraphernalia and over $1,000 in cash. The contraband was seized as evidence.
The probable cause report states that the amount of controlled substances found in Norton’s possession indicate he is a source for the distribution of dangerous drugs in the community. He was placed on 24-hour investigative hold pending the formal charges. Bond was denied.
