Water Operator Steve Henderson reported to the City of Coffey during their meeting on May 16 that daily water readings were lower. Some tree limbs in the park need trimmed and the streets need graded. He will try to determine where the tractor is losing water, so repairs can be made.
The sump pump in the city hall basement was beyond repair, so Mayor Ray authorized a new one to be purchased.
Hickman Environmental returned with the two malfunctioning sewer pumps but they determined one pump had been inadvertently wound backwards and had to be returned for repair. Henderson stated pump #4 floats are needing adjusted or a switch is needing replaced so pumps will automatically cycle. The board instructed him to notify customers not connected to city sewer to cap their line or get connected as required by ordinance.
Henderson reported the properties he checked had sewer clean outs. After discussion, area towns will be contacted for their sewer shutoff costs and procedures.
The financial report was accepted, non-regular bills were approved, and regular bills were reviewed.
Petty cash reimbursement was approved. (Motion carried 2-1; Griffin abstained.)
The consensus of the board was for Mayor Ray to explore legal avenues to enforce property cleanup ordinances.
Next regular meeting will be at 10 a.m. on June 20.
The above are the unapproved minutes of the meeting for the City of Coffey held May 16. Council members present were Mayor Ralph Ray, Beverly Hunter, Carolyn Griffin, and Frank Davis. Also present were City Clerk, Tammy de Jong and Water Operator, Steve Henderson.
