Maddi Michael Elected to Serve as the 2020-21 Missouri FBLA Vice President of Communications
The Gallatin FBLA Chapter recently participated in the 2020 Missouri FBLA-PBL Virtual State Leadership Conference. This virtual experience provided members from across Missouri with over 200 hours of educational and leadership content, live forums with industry leaders, and interactive educational activities in an online platform.
Over 3,500 students and advisers came together for the event, with over 150 business education related contests running during the virtual conference; contest topics range from accounting to website design, marketing to mobile application development. 2020 marked the first year the conference was not held in person.
Maddison Michael, daughter of Doug and Angel Michael, completed her term as the 2019-20 Missouri FBLA State Secretary. She was elected to continue her leadership journey on the 2020-21 State Leadership Team as the Missouri FBLA Vice President of Communications. She will be installed as a state officer virtually later this week.
Due to the virtual nature of the conference, competitions had to be modified. State objective testing events had already been completed online during the first week of March. Many FBLA events contain an objective test or a prejudged submission in combination with an oral presentation component. This year, those events were modified and scored off of the prejudged submission or test component alone, which had been submitted on March 6 just prior to Gallatin R-5 being dismissed for Covid-19. A handful of events contain only an oral presentation. Those events which consisted of a team were modified into an essay competition due to the stay-at-home order and the inability to get members together to record their presentation. However, for the solo speaking events, members were required to submit videos to be judged.
On May 7, a live virtual Awards of Excellence Ceremony was held to celebrate and honor FBLA members across the state excelling in their competitive events. Overall, Gallatin FBLA brought home two state championships and many more top 10 awards, including:
1st Place – State Champions, American Enterprise Project, Brianna Filley, Cloey Waterbury, and Olivia Woody; 1st Place – State Champions, Emerging Business Issues, Jessica Hart, Gloria Hernandez, and Karina Hacking.
