Through the Feeding America Network, Triumph Foods has partnered with Barlow Freight Lines to make a 23,925-pound donation that will be shared between Second Harvest Community Food Bank and Harvester’s – The Community Food Network, headquartered in Kansas City, MO.
Due to the nature in which the donation was received, bulk quantities, and the food and safety guidelines Second Harvest has in place, the donation would not have been possible without the assistance of Harvesters. Harvesters has the ability to repack the bulk items in a USDA Clean Room, thus following the proper guidelines needed to distribute these items to those in need.
“This donation from Triumph Foods is going to provide nearly 20,000 meals to those in need’ Second Harvest Chief Executive Officer, Chad Higdon said, ‘we are seeing a greater need than ever before due to the pandemic; this donation is going to make such an impact on our efforts.”
Each product donation that is made to Second Harvest during the pandemic continues to be done so with limited person to person contact. Upon the donation’s arrival at Second Harvest, it is then stored in a designated area for 7 days to take extra precaution. The FDA has provided information that COVID-19 is not transmittable through food or food packaging.
“We want to ensure that when a donation is received it is done so in a safe manner for all parties involved,’ Second Harvest Chief Operating Officer, T.J. Bauer said ‘we will continue to do what we can to assist those in need and make sure we are doing our part, we are all in this together.”
“As we continue to battle this pandemic, Triumph Foods will remain diligent in continuing to provide to the local food supply and combat food insecurity in our area,” Triumph Foods Communications & Community Relations Manager, Chris Clark said.
