The Daviess County Library is happy to announce the first phase of its return to normal operations.
There will be several timed phases to the process, each lasting 10-14 days, to allow plenty of time to observe the effect on our community’s health.
Phase I entails the return to limited curbside service offered prior to Missouri’s “shelter-in-place” order at the beginning of April.
This initial step involves minimal staff-patron contact and no public access to the building. Please gather all the books you have borrowed and plan to drop them in our drop box. Staff will then have time to quarantine and sanitize materials before returning them to the system for loan next week.
The quarantine period is 24-72 hours depending upon the material item. Patrons may visit the website catalog, be sure to click around in there because it has been updated and begin requesting holds this week.
Next week beginning Tuesday, May 12, staff will review hold requests each morning and contact patrons when the request is filled and ready for pick-up. No patrons will be allowed in the building at this time, therefore there will be no computer or printing access.
During Phase I, patron accounts will return to normal status of two-week loan periods of six books, six audiobooks, and six magazines. DVD’s will return to one-week loan status. Overdue fines will also be reinstituted.
Summer reading programming is currently under reconstruction, so keep an eye tuned to the Facebook page for all the virtual activity coming your way. Some of the virtual options will be library tours and tutorials with summer fun beginning as usual after Memorial Day—just not in person this year.
Subsequent phases regarding return of public access to the building will be reviewed by the library board at its May meeting and announced following approval. The goal is to provide excellent service but in a manner that promotes health and wellness to all involved—staff, patrons, and community.
Much consideration has gone into the timeline of the return to service and the conservative approach seems the most prudent. Your understanding and compliance is appreciated. The library board and director reserve the right to accelerate or discontinue any or all of these services depending upon escalation of this pandemic.
