Hickman Environmental Services was called back on March 7 to service a malfunctioning pump at sewer lift station #1 at Coffey. It was determined that a grinder pump had been badly damaged by disposable wipes, among other detrimental materials, being flushed into the city’s sewer system.
In other business at the March 14 meeting for the City of Coffey, ordinance #2020-02, amending water charges and sewer charges was approved. The city council had established an effective date for a water/wastewater rate increase to begin with the July 1 billing at an earlier meeting.
Ordinance #2020-02 will also increase the city alderman and mayor regular monthly meeting stipend.
The financial report was accepted, and bills were approved.
Water Operator Steve Henderson reported two water leaks had been repaired, West Street and High Street. At a third leak site, a pipe became separated while excavating and had to be repaired. Because there weren’t enough daylight hours left to continue working, an additional day was needed to locate and fix the original leak. The council would consider action to be taken if a road boar is determined to be necessary to fix the leak.
Steve Henderson asked if he would be paid for his classroom time while he is taking his water certification renewal classes. The board carried a motion that he be paid his hourly wage while taking the classes.
The council discussed the condensation issue regarding the windows in city hall. No action was taken.
Rapid Removal will be contacted to set a date in May for city-wide clean-up.
Next regular meeting will be at 10 a.m. on April 18.
The above are the unapproved minutes of the City of Coffey held March 14. Council members present were Mayor Ralph Ray, Beverly Hunter, Carolyn Griffin and Frank Davis. Also present were City Clerk Tammy de Jong and Water Operator Steve Henderson.
