Jeffrey R. Knott, St. Cloud, MN, was charged March 23 with leaving scene of accident, E felony, and misdemeanors of possession of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, following too closely, and failure to maintain financial responsibility.
According to the probable cause statement, Knott fled after an accident on I-35, south of the Route DD bridge. The crash occurred at 1:30 p.m. on March 22 when Knott’s Acura struck an SUV which was being towed by a motor coach, causing damage to the motor coach, the towing device and the SUV. The motor coach was driving in the right lane when the rear of the towed unit was impacted by the Acura, and came to a controlled stop on the shoulder.
Knott offered cash to the occupants of the motor coach in lieu of involving law enforcement, but they refused his cash offer. Knott left the scene of the accident and was apprehended by officers several hours later, at 9 p.m., when nearby residents located him hiding in the woods. Knott was attempting to avoid detection while waiting for two men from Minnesota to come pick him up.
