Markay August, Regent of the Gallatin Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution, noticed the American Flag hadn’t been flying at the Altamont Post Office over the past few weeks.
She talked with Luke Wilson and Courtney Bird, both Postal Service Employees at Altamont. They explained that the flag had been taken down after it was damaged by a recent storm. A flag had been ordered, but it was on back order and hadn’t arrived yet. They also wanted to make sure the proper procedure was followed when the flag was raised.
Mrs. August got in touch with Gary Jones, Commander with the Gallatin Frank Frazier Veteran’s of Foreign Wars Post #2172. The VFW donated a flag. Present for the hoisting of the flag on Monday, March 23, were Robert Smith, past Gallatin VFW Commander, Gary Jones, current Gallatin VFW Commander, Courtney Bird, post office employee, and Markay August. Luke Wilson is not pictured.
