Walter Lyle Warford was born in Pattonsburg on Jan. 15, 1936. He collapsed in his shop on March 18, 2020 and later died at the hospital.
Lyle was the son of Walter and Helen (Zentz) Warford. Both parents preceded him in death.
Lyle was a 1954 graduate of Pattonsburg High School and attended two years of college at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville.
On Sept. 2, 1956 he married Donna Lee Foster. Lyle and Donna raised two sons, Walter Lee Warford and David Glenn Warford. In 1958 they built a home on the west side of Pattonsburg where they raised their family and lived until the times of their passing. Donna passed away on May 11, 2014.
Lyle was also preceded in death by his four siblings, Don Estell, Daphna June, Doris Kathleen, and Helen Arelyn.
He is survived by his two sons and their families, Lee and wife, Linda, and daughters, Courtney, Kelly and Katie, and David and his son, Tyler, and Jacquelyn and Jocelyn; sister-in-law, Jan Foster, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, and a group of very close friends.
Lyle was an active member of the Pattonsburg Christian Church and attended regularly as he was able.
He lived his entire life in Pattonsburg, never having a desire to live anywhere else. He was a farmer and Pattonsburg business owner, owning Warford Grain Co., Pattonsburg Feed Co., PFC Gas Service and Main Street Station.
Lyle was a former member of Pattonsburg Lions Club and was a long time scoutmaster for Troop #159. He was a member of the Tribe of Mic-O-Say, earning the White Coup Award in 1975.
Lyle was always excited about the activities of his grandchildren and very seldom missed one of their activities. He proudly attended the graduations of all four of his grandchildren as they graduated as the fifth generation from Pattonsburg High School.
Lyle was the go-to-guy for people with questions about everything from farming to town history to mechanics. He loved to tinker in his garage and rarely a day passed that he didn’t at least spend a few minutes there until he was too tired to stay.
Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, private graveside services and burial will be held Monday, March 23, in Pattonsburg Memorial Gardens, under the direction of Roberson Funeral Home, Pattonsburg. Friends may call to pay their respects to Lyle from 12 noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at Roberson Funeral Home, Pattonsburg. There is no scheduled family visitation.
