The I-35 Cattlemen’s Association will conduct a scholarship dinner and auction with entertainment for those registered to participate at the event slated for Saturday, Feb. 29, at The Pearl located southwest of Hamilton.
This is the inaugural “Cattleman’s Night at the Pearl.” All proceeds will benefit the I-35 Cattlemen’s Association youth in agriculture scholarship fund.
Over the past nine years this group has awarded scholarships to 13 high school seniors who plan to pursue higher education in agriculture.
The fund-raising event Feb. 29, begins with social hour and cash bar at 5 p.m. with a prime rib dinner from Girratano’s Meat Company at 6 p.m. Entertainment will feature dueling pianos by Big Show Dueling Pianos. The I-35 Cattlemen Association board of directors will conduct a scholarship auction after the meal.
The I-35 Cattlemen’s Association meets three to four times annually at different locations in Caldwell, Clay, Clinton, Daviess, and Dekalb counties. Guest speakers are featured at events aimed to be educational and information. Meetings and tours provide social and networking opportunities for local cattle producers.
The association has been funding local county fairs in the 5-county area for the past five years. A monetary contribution is made to one or more beef exhibitors at each fair, based on the I-35 county representative’s discretion.
Anyone interested can become a member of the association for a $30 annual membership fee. The spring membership meeting is set for Thursday, April 23 (location yet to be announced). The annual business meeting will be conducted at this time as well as election of new officers.
Currently serving on the I-35 Board of Directors are: Austin Story of 8 Story Farms, Altamont, president; John Crawford, vice president; Mandi Bird, secretary; Nancy Snyder, treasurer; Mike Green representing Caldwell; Greg Rhodus representing Clay; Scott Seabolt representing Clinton; Cindy Grady representing Daviess; and Dale Buhman representing Dekalb.
