Carli Beck fights for a rebound against Hamilton’s Julia Kanoy and Graycen Prothero.

In most cases, #1 seeds versus #8 seeds don’t turn out well for the underdog in tournament openers. Such was the case Monday night at the Lawson Invitational Tournament.
Top-seeded Hamilton jumped out strong and never looked back as the Lady Hornets took down Gallatin, 47-11, in the first game of the tournament. The Lady Hornets sprinted to an 11-0 lead in the first quarter, the Lady Bulldogs scored 5 straight in a 2 minute stretch mid quarter, but that would turn out to be nearly half of their game-ending production.
The Lady Hornets took twice as many shots as their opponents (52-26) and forced 31 GHS turnovers. The Lady Bulldogs came out on top in rebounds, 23 to 21, with Madalyn Shubert pulling down a team high 5.
Shubert and Carli Beck each totaled 4 points for Gallatin. Libby Endicott scored a bucket and Claire Hemry added a free throw.
Gallatin will take on #5 Richmond at 4:30 today (Wednesday) in the consolation bracket. The winner will play Friday at 5 p.m. for the consolation title. Lawson defeated Richmond, 58-29, on Monday.
