William Perkins, 49, McFall received minor injuries in an accident that happened at about 10:18 p.m. on Jan. 8, in Daviess County. After his stolen car crashed and burned, he tried to flee, but was arrested.
According to the highway patrol, Perkins was southbound on Hwy. 13 and attempted to turn right onto Kodiak Road, about one mile north of Jameson. He lost control and his vehicle went off the west side of the roadway, struck a fence, and caught fire before coming to rest, facing north.
Perkins was taken by Daviess County EMS to Harrison County Community Hospital in Bethany. It’s not known if he was wearing a seat belt.
The accident was investigated by Tpr. J.P. Lynch.
At 10:21 p.m. on Jan. 8, Perkins was arrested in Harrison County by the patrol and charged with 13 counts, including five felonies — tampering with a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest by fleeing, resisting arrest, driving while revoked or suspended; and the following misdemeanors — unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, resisting arrest, failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, exceeding posted speed limit by 26 miles per hour or more, failure to drive on right half of roadway, displaying motor vehicle plates of another person, failure to display valid plates, and failure to signal.
The above charges are mere accusation and not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of the charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.
