Gallatin’s Junior High girls captured the championship of the Hamilton Tournament on Dec. 19. Team members were: Kirbie Crouse, Bailey Morrison, Sara Lin, Kaitlyn McNeely, Kailey Salmon, Markecia Lewis, Kailey Elbert, Kaitlyn Hefley, Morgan Horvatin, Molly Mott, Aubrey Nelson and Kylie Collins. Coaches were Cindy Boles and Stacey Maxwell.
Mary Olsen, a 25-year employee of the Missouri Department of Transportation, retired on Dec. 31, 2009. Mary was a maintenance worker at Gallatin when she retired. Mary started working for the department in 1985.

Jan. 5, 2000
Total personal income in Daviess County increased from $98,870,000 in the year 1990 to $143, 670,000 in 1997 according to a report recently by the Department of Commerce. This represents an increase of 45.3% in total local personal income from 1990 through 1997.
John Sullenger reported the theft of an International Cub Cadet garden tractor from the Gallatin Truck & Tractor between 2:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. on Jan. 3. The tractor was recovered on Highway 6 approximately 50 yards from the dealership after it apparently rolled off the suspect’s trailer. The tractor was not damaged.

Jan. 10, 1990
The Student Council of Jameson R-3 has entered the Adopt-A-Highway program sponsored by the Missouri Department of Transportation. Students involved in the project include Jacob Nielson, Sarah Henderson, Scott Adkison, Julie Breit, Bobbi Griffin, Chris Baker, Sonya Cotton, Bryce Burton, along with advisor Quentin Albrecht.
Homecoming was celebrated at Jameson High School on Jan. 19 when Huskey basketball teams hosted Mercer. Candidates were: (student council) Laura Hoyle and Chris Baker, (seniors) Tami Breit and Brent Brown, (juniors) Delta Carter and Steve Cornelson, (sophomores) Becky Nielson and Ryan Hartley, and (freshmen) Sarah Henderson and Jason Estes.

Jan. 9, 1980
Vocational students at Gallatin R-5 helped instructors Marvin Hiley, Gary Hill and Kenneth Lockridge move equipment into the new vocational building west of the high school. An open house for the new facility was planned for early February.
Winston’s girls rolled over Union Star, 68-31, to set a new Stanberry Invitational Tournament record for most points scored in a game. The victory raised the top-seeded Lady Redbird record to 10-0. Melissa Rogers led the team with 23 points.

Jan. 8, 1970
The Gallatin Bulldogs upset top-seeded Jameson, 58-57, for the championship of the North Harrison Invitational Tournament Friday night. The last tourney won by a Gallatin five was the regional in 1962. Howard Weldon and Dennis Morrissey led the Bulldogs with 20 and 17 points, respectively.
The old building, long a landmark on Highway 13 in south Gallatin, was demolished this week to make room for a new all-steel building for the Thompson Implement Co. The new building will be similar in color as the present John Deere building, which is relatively new. The old building was built in 1936 by the late Ralph B. Snyder for the IHC agency.

Jan. 7, 1960
A huge micro-wave tower was the newest object on the Daviess County skyline. The installation is located in the Windy Ridge section of the county, just east of U. S. 69, a few miles southwest of Winston. It is designed to carry hundreds of long distance telephone conversations simultaneously.
Aunt Jemima Pancake Day, one of the highlights of Polio Month in Daviess County, was Saturday. Once again Aunt Jemima will be in Gallatin all day to serve those delicious pancakes. Pancake Day is sponsored by the VFW Auxiliary.

Jan. 5, 1950
Among those to face Stanberry in the Grand River Conference basketball tilt was Gallatin first-stringers John Cain, Cliff Agenstein, John Perkins, Worth Murphy, Bill Mead, and David Knauer. Fire completely destroyed the Barlow Service Station and adjacent home of Mrs. Minnie Rottman on State Highway 6 and 13 in North Gallatin. Sub-freezing weather worked a hardship on local fire fighters. Both ears were frozen for Wilbert (Buster) Gordon. E. H. (Eddie) Elbert suffered a frozen ear. Arnold Tolen suffered frozen feet.
