County Commission
The commission received word from the Governor’s Office and from the 43rd Judicial District that all government offices and courts will be closed all day on Christmas Eve. The commission agreed to amend the 2019 county holiday schedule to match. David Cox made a motion to approve the amended 2019 holiday schedule; Wayne Uthe seconded, and the motion passed, 3-0.

James Lewis, bridge supervisor, updated the commissioners on ongoing work. They have been working on repairs and maintenance of equipment in the shop this week. Discussion was held regarding ongoing tube projects.
Janet Weidner, deputy recorder, met with the commission.
The commission entered into closed session from 8:35 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. to discuss personnel. No decisions were made.
Jason Smith, coroner, David Roll, Emergency Management Agency, Kayla Michael, public administrator, and Annie Gibson, prosecutor, met with the commission to discuss 2020 budgets.
Jane McKinsey, recorder, met with the commission to discuss a payment for storage books and how to handle the split payment in December and January.
Clint Vanatta, Union Township, met with the commission to discuss progress on the repairs to Saber Road and the proposed drawings for the new road.
Discussion was held regarding applications received for three open positions on the Daviess County Disabilities Board. Four applications were received by the commission. Wayne Uthe made a motion to reappoint Darrell Critten, Debra Sweatman, and Mike Arnold to 3-year terms beginning Jan. 1, 2020; David Cox seconded, and the motion passed, 3-0.
Ronetta Burton, county clerk, advised she had received information from Mid-States Services, LLC that they were inquiring if the county would be interested if fiber optic internet services were available in Gallatin. When more information is available the county will consider the new services.

Circuit Court
On Dec. 17, probation was revoked for Jack W. Parker, Clarksdale, and his previously imposed sentence of seven years in the Department of Corrections was executed. He was charged with DWI aggravated, D felony. The case was heard by Judge Daren Adkins.
On Dec. 19 a separate case against Parker was heard by Judge Ryan Horsman. Parker was sentenced to two years in the Department of Corrections for no valid license, E felony, to run consecutively to any other sentences.
The following cases were heard by Judge Ryan Horsman on Dec. 17 and Dec. 19:
Melanie Lynn Myers, Kansas City, pled guilty to possession of controlled substance, D felony, and drug paraphernalia, A misdemeanor. A sentence assessment report was ordered.
Ashley Ross, Jamesport, pled guilty to possession of controlled substance, D felony, and two misdemeanor counts of drug paraphernalia. A sentence assessment report was ordered.
Virginia Wainwright, Lee’s Summit, pled guilty to possession of controlled substance, D felony, and was sentenced to three years in the Department of Corrections. On misdemeanors of possession of controlled substance, careless and imprudent driving, and DWI, she was sentenced to 60 days jail on each count with credit for time served, sentences to run concurrently, and consecutively to any other sentences being served. A judgment of $8,521.76 was entered for restitution.
Cases bound over from the Associate Division: State vs. Devin L.A. Hall, Riverside, DWI aggravated, D felony, and misdemeanors of failure to comply with ignition interlock device requirements, failure to drive within single lane, no valid license, failure to maintain financial responsibility, and a seat belt infraction.
Associate Division
Jordan A. Chaney, Lansing, KS, was charged Dec. 19 with two felony counts of passing bad checks.
A change of venue case from DeKalb County was dismissed on Dec. 18. The case, Melody Paxton of Stewartsville vs. City of Clarksdale, MO, was transferred to Daviess County in February. The case had been scheduled for a jury trial in January.
Assessor’s Office
Representatives from the assessor’s office will be in the field picking up new construction and reviewing in Jamesport, Jackson, Washington and Lincoln Townships, through Jan. 3.
